The Note in my Bible
A note sits in my Bible now.
It is old and wrinkled and torn around the edges. Abbey wrote it when she was last year.
She told me that after everything we had been through, I was still the best dad. That I had never been bad and never would be. That I helped her, Sadie, Mom, and Olivia become better people.
Then she ended it the way only a kid could:
“P.S. Please keep on doing funny things. I love them.”
I have read that note more times than Abbey will probably ever know.
Especially lately.
Things are still hard. Very hard.
There are days when the weight of everything feels heavier than I want to admit.
Days when I question myself and wonder how much more I have in me.
So I open my Bible.
Sometimes I am looking for a psalm. Sometimes a Gospel. Many times I am just looking for enough strength to get through the day.
And there is Abbey’s note.
Folded between the pages.
A little piece of paper written by a little girl who somehow knew exactly what her dad would need.
I read it.
I smile at the part about doing funny things.
And I keep going.
Thanks be to God.
